More than two dozen area agencies will have an opportunity to practice their emergency preparedness and response skills at the Statesville Regional Airport on December 2 as part of an exercise conducted by Iredell County Emergency Management.
The scenario for the exercise is a plane crash. It was developed by Blue Ridge Emergency Preparedness to “allow multiple municipalities and agencies to practice working together on a large scale event,” said David Martin, Iredell County Emergency Management Director. “It is a wonderful opportunity for all these agencies to go through a major emergency drill from start to finish and determine our strengths and weaknesses.”
The exercise will be conducted between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. at the airport located at 238 Airport Rd. Residents in the area around the Statesville Regional Airport will observe numerous emergency vehicles on their roads during this time. All communication over radio will make clear that it is an exercise only.
More than 100 volunteers will carry out their tasks as if it was a real plane crash, but the exercise is not expected to interrupt local road or airport traffic.
